THE DESIGNERS- MOVIDA 09
Below you will find further information on the designers from our Movida Catwalk show which included Rachel Freire, BESTOW ELAN, Nam Q Park and Beatrice Korlekie.
RACHEL FREIRE www.www.rachelfreire.com
Rachel Freire is a London based designer whose debut fashion collection was presented at London Fashion Week with On|Off in February 2009 at the Science Museum in London.
Already her work has been seen in publications such as Dazed and Confused, AnOther, Issue One, Timeout London, Juxtapoz, Illustrated Ape, Art Business Today and Metro London.
Educated at Central Saint Martins, her influences stem from her love of historical costume combined with futuristic imagery. Behind the dramatic silhouettes and decadent embellishments, the pieces are designed to be wearable, durable and flattering.
'This London based designer certainly knows how to put on a show. As the final model exits the stage, I cant wait to see her new designs....her fine art conceptual imagery and imaginative pieces are truly eye catching.' -Fashion156.com
'But it was Rachel Freire that took the breath away, with a debut fashion collection that featured sci-fi warrior queens, trussed up in beige body suits, with huge armour-like shrugs, leg bandages and the most wholeheartedly aggressive shoe boots that we have ever seen.' -Metro

BESTOW ELAN :
Created for the discerning female, the designer behind this label Erzumah Ackerson draws her inspiration from both classic and vintage stimuli, as well as influences from her heritage - which in turn allows her to create garments that are fitting for every occasion, and appeal to individuals from all walks of life.
BESTOW ELANs desire for design can be recognised in the way pattern-cutting is used to create silhouettes that not only complement the female form; they allow the wearer the confidence to feel feminine and chic.
The former London College of fashion students experiences within the industry include exhibiting her first collection in central London at Profile 4, assisting Jonathon Saunders, the print designer with his London Fashion Week debut, plus working on Russian label KISA LONDONs Fashion Week collection.
The designers experiences continue to grow, as awareness of the label increases BESTOW ELAN was selected and participated in the most recent KULTURE2COUTURE catwalk show at the V&A, showcased at the UNTOLD anniversary show and has been featured in a selection of publications.
BESTOW ELAN welcomes spring/summer 2010 with a collection the designer claims is all about her own self realisation and future endeavours, and is aptly named LIBERTY.

BEATRICE KORLEKIE
Beatrice Korlekie Newman is a 1st Class Ba Hons Fashion Graduate from De Montfort University.
Beatrices African culture introduced her to a diversity of rich textiles and colours. This has been a significant factor for Beatrice to learn more about fashion and how this could translate the richness of textiles and colour into unique modern clothes. With a general interest in, and love for fashion, as well as her flair in creating fabrics has allowed Beatrice to challenge deep-seated ideas and concepts in fashion.
I consider that my passion for textiles has made me take more active interest in knitwear and other types of hand weaving techniques such as macram and crocheting which give me the latitude to introduce and build upon my own ideas in fabrics.
